About Us

Mission

The mission of the Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc., (BHCOC) is to educate the citizens of Orlando/Orange County and America about Black History, which is a vital source of American History. BHCOC Inc. in conjunction with our corporate sponsorships, governmental partners, and various other entities and companies throughout America are committed to improving dialogue as it pertains to the contributions that African-Americans have made to society. BHCOC Inc. is further committed to improving the literacy in our community by donating funds to students who wish to continue their education by obtaining an undergraduate or graduate degree, and to help the disadvantaged community.

Accomplishments

The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc., has donated over $400,000 to local schools, colleges, and universities in Orlando and throughout the State of Florida (Pineloch Elementary, Olympia High School, Valencia College, University of Central Florida, Florida A&M University, Bethune Cookman University, Edward Waters College, Florida Memorial University, and Rollins College). Also, donations have been made to the community on a local, national, and international scale (tutoring programs, water distribution for Haiti, victims of fires, Little Leagues, local churches, The Hurricane Katrina Relief effort, and more).

BHCOC Facts

  1. Over $400,000.00 has been donated in scholarships to seven colleges and universities, which includes Bethune-Cookman University, Florida A & M University, University of Central Florida, Edward Waters College, Florida Memorial University, Valencia College, and Rollins College.

  2. The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc. funds are endowed at Valencia College.

  3. A total of 103 students have benefited from our scholarships. Please see recipients on our website page. These students graduated from an Orange County Public School and attend one of the seven colleges and universities that we fund.
